WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM CARDIAC REHABILITATION?
Cardiac rehabilitation is for individuals who have angina, congestive heart failure, valvular disease and for those recovering from heart attack, cardiac surgery, angioplasty (PTCA), atherectomy, rotoblator and stent placement. Others at risk for developing heart disease may also be appropriate.

    CARDIAC REHABILITATION PROGRAM
Sutter Health's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program has been developed in accordance with standards set by the California Society for Cardiac Rehabilitation and the American College of Sports Medicine.

The professional staff will develop an individually tailored education and exercise program for you based on your medical history and your cardiovascular needs.

The exercise sessions last approximately one hour, three times a week for one to three months. During these sessions, your heart rate and blood pressure are monitored.

Exercise equipment includes treadmills, stationary bicycles, arm ergometers, rowing machines and light weights. The staff provides supervision and monitoring to ensure that you stay within safe limits of physical stress during exercise. After completion of your monitored program, you may choose to continue exercising in a maintenance program. This program is available to those who wish to continue exercising in a structured environment for a period of time.

    THE STAFF OF CARDIAC REHABILITATION
The Cardiac Rehabilitation staff includes a medical director/cardiologist, cardiac rehabilitation nurse, exercise physiologist and cardiac technician. Other specialists available to patients include a registered dietitian, medical social worker and pharmacist.

    COST OF THE PROGRAM
Since the program is medically prescribed and supervised, many health insurance companies, including Medi-Care cover the cost of the program. If assistance is needed in seeking approval from insurance companies, our staff will be glad to help. For more information, please contact the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program location nearest you or ask your doctor.
