Vaughn Resource Center & Cronan Medical Library
Dr. Thomas Vaughn was a popular local physician dedicated to preventive health and education for his patients. Upon his death in 1986, family and community members erected an educational display in his memory. That display has grown into what is now the Vaughn Resource Center. The center is located with the Leo A. Cronan Memorial Medical Library on the second floor next to Medical Records.

Dr. Leo A. Cronan was instrumental in developing the original medical library at Sutter Davis Hospital. Upon his death in 1986, Mrs. Cronan requested that the Cronan Memorial Fund be established to maintain the library. The response was overwhelming from Dr. Cronan's friends, family, patients and colleagues, allowing for current medical books and periodicals to line the shelves of the library that bears his name.

Portraits of Drs. Vaughn and Cronan occupy one wall of the Resource Center/Medical Library.

Volunteers staff the Resource Center/Medical Library from 10 a.m. - Noon weekdays and by appointment. The staff accesses an extensive base of resources to respond to health-related inquiries.

The non-profit information center is open to physicians, allied health care providers, corporations and the general public. Access to information is available through printed publications and online through the Internet. The printed collection includes medical reference books, medical journals and brochures. Other educational materials include videotapes, which may be borrowed for viewing at no charge.

Computer workstations provide additional capabilities that include:

InfoTrac - a searchable database that provides four years of hard-to-find medical information from periodicals, pamphlets and reference books

CD ROM Programs - a collection of CD-ROMs that includes searchable information for patients and provider education

Internet - access to suggested web sites that include up-to-date medical information

While staff will gladly assist with locating articles or texts of a specific nature, they are prohibited from commenting on or interpreting information contained within the materials. Medical questions should always be directed to the patient's physician.
